Mino

A streetscape that evokes the vestiges of the past

Mino began as a castle town during the Keicho era (1596-1614) when

Kanamori Nagachika, the lord of the Takayama domain, built it.

Throughout the Edo period, merchants who had made a fortune through washi paper competed to prove their wealth, and splendid udatsu were hung on the roofs of merchant houses as a symbol of wealth.

And even today, its majestic townscape is still alive.
